Sea Kayaking Tour Company Internship:

Looking for a unique opportunity to work within a small business in the outdoor industry? Interns will be exposed to all aspects of our company: Previous interns now work on our guiding staff, manage other tour companies & ropes courses, and work in the outdoor industry in other sports.

Internship  Qualifications:
-    Currently working on a degree in Business Management, Tourism, Natural Resources, or other related field
-    Availability: 3-5 days a week including most weekends
-    A desire to learn about and participate in the day to day operations of a tour outfitter company

Internship Responsibilities:
-    Customer Service: phones, emails, make reservations, rent mountain bikes, talk with walk-in customers
-    Assist with Operations: collaborate with staff, support guiding staff, prepare & pack kayak trips, help at launch site
-    Go along on kayak tours to become familiar with our offerings
-    Learn about the local cultural history, natural history, trails, and things to do in the area
-    Train in sea kayaking, rescues and navigation if interested.
-    If a part of a Bachelor's Degree: We will help you to select and complete a final project relevant to your interests.

Pay is DOE: $10-16 per hour

 Kayaking Guide: Lead & Assistant Positions available

Guides are needed for our 2015 season, May-September. Dependent on schedule and desire, guides work 1-8 tours per week, sometimes two per day if desired.

Assistant Kayak Guide

Assistant Guide Qualifications:
-    Current First Aid and Adult & Child CPR
-    Beginning knowledge of natural history (wildlife, marine mammals, raptors, waterfowl, geology, marine environment) 
-    Experience leading groups, preferably in an outdoor setting
-    Knowledge of or willingness to learn about local cultural history, natural history, and conservation issues
-    Experience in sea kayaking, rescues and navigation. 

Assistant Guide Responsibilities:    
-     Utilize outdoor leadership, group management, and people skills to facilitate a positive experience. 
-     Help clients adjust gear & boats and provide basic paddling tips
-    Help lead guide with rescues, tour route, and keeping the group together on the water
-    Be Familiar with local waterways, tides, currents, weather patterns
-    Help with clean up of kayaks and gear.Help with clean up of kayaks and gear.

Trip Pay is based on tour length, (3-6hrs) and guide level. $85-$115 per tour. Overnight tours also available.

Lead Kayak Guide

Lead Guide Qualifications:
-    Current Wilderness First Aid and Adult & Child CPR 
-    Weekend or midweek availability.
-    Basic knowledge of natural history (wildlife, marine mammals, raptors, waterfowl, geology, marine environment, tidepools, wetlands) 
-    Experience leading groups, preferably in an outdoor setting
-    Training and experience in sea kayaking, rescues and navigation.
-    Experience performing rescues, teaching basic paddling techniques and leading commercial kayak tours. 
-    Excellent outdoor leadership, group management, and people skills. 
-    Able to be flexible, well organized and pay attention to all details while keeping the larger picture in focus.
-    Lead kayak guides must have a CA drivers license and drive with a trailer.
-    Familiar with local waterways, tides, currents, weather patterns

In addition to our public tours, we offer customized private tours, teambuilding tours, and environmental education tours for school groups, scout troops, corporate groups, and other private groups. Experience in these areas is a plus.

Pay Scale is on a per tour basis and based on guide level. $85-$145.

Office Crew:

The office can be a busy place on the weekends. These folks aren't easily ruffled, they can turn their back to the activity happening around them and focus on their own tasks, or pitch in with the most time sensitive needs. These patient, team oriented, intellegent individuals have the abilitity to remember familiar faces and places. The voice of our company, these specialists know the ins and outs of PRO and what we do/offer.

Office Crew Responsibilities:

-    Part time or Full Time: Must be available at least one weekend day.
-    Basic Computer Proficiency and ability to learn our online Reservation System 
-    A desire to learn about and participate in the day to day of a tour outfitter company
-    Ability to work in a fast paced work environment and be a quick learner
-    Promoter of friendly, happy, welcoming vibe for greeting visitors and guide staff.
-    Familiar with basic bike workings and local bike trails to rent mountain bikes. We can train you.
-    Familiar with PRO's offerings to help clients select a suitable tour or trail
-    Familiar with the area's hiking trails, restaurants, roads and attractions to assist walk-in visitors.
-    Respond to client emails. Answer phones, listen to voicemail, return calls

-    Must be 18 years of age
-    Available 3-5 days a week, June - September, including some weekends: 10-40 hrs per week based on availibility

Pay is DOE: $12-18 per hour.

Yard Crew:

These individuals are solution oriented. "Can't" and "Won't" are not in their vocabulary. Problem solvers, critical thinkers, Get'er done types: these essential folks keep the gears turnng in the back office. Masters of keeping themselves busy, these folks clean and fix the kayaks, fix the bikes, rent bikes, pack kayak trips, clean things up, organize the back office, manage gear inventory, rearrange kayaks on trailers, and sometimes answer phones. If you like a multifaceted job to keep things interesting, this could be for you.

Yard Crew Qualifications:

-    Part time or Full Time: Must be available on weekends.

-    Ability to work in a fast paced work environment and be a quick learner
-    Eyes always open: always looking for things that may need to be done or fixed 
-    Perform kayak and bike maintenance as qualified. We will train you in consideration to aptitude and desire.
-    Organize gear and prepare and pack kayaking trips
-    Ability to lift sea kayaks. Configure kayaks on the trailers in preparation of trips.
-    A desire to learn about and participate in the day to day of a tour outfitter company- Must be 18 years of age
-    Available 3-5 days a week, June - September.

Pay is DOE: $11-18 per hour.

Point Reyes Hikes

Hiking Guide/Naturalist

We are seeking qualified individuals to join our hiking and education staff. This position is on an as needed basis and is perfect for individuals with flexible schedules and occasional extra time to devote to their passion for the outdoors, education, and exploration.  Our guided hikes are for all ages. Our environmental education programs are for kids 6 and up. For more info on our hiking and environmental education programs, view our Hiking Tours page or our Environmental Education page.

Most of our hiking guides average 4-6 trips per year. As a guide, you may be called up to 4 times a month to lead hikes typically midweek and occasionally on weekends.

Our normal hiring season is January through April each year. At times, more staff are added outside this timeframe. We accept applications year round.

Qualifications:
-    Wilderness First Aid
-    Adult & Child CPR
-    Flexible schedule and/or midweek availability
-    Knowledge of natural history (local cultural history, flora, wildlife, marine mammals, raptors, water fowl, geology, marine environment, tidepools, wetlands)
-    Knowledge of  trails within Point Reyes National Seashore
-    Experience teaching science concepts
-    Experience leading groups in an outdoor setting
-    Experience developing lesson plans is a plus.
-    Excellent outdoor leadership, group management, and people skills.
-    Able to be flexible, well organized and pay attention to all details while keeping the larger picture in focus.
-    Lead hiking guides must have a CA drivers license.
-    Familiar with local trail conditions, tides, and weather patterns.
